SENATE APPROVES BOY SCOUT RESOLUTION
INTRODUCED BY CONGRESSMAN HALL

WASHINGTON, D.C. ...Rep. Ralph Hall (R-TX) expressed appreciation today for the Senate’s passage of a resolution yesterday recognizing February 8, 2010, as “Boy Scouts of America Day.” Hall authored similar legislation that was approved by the House earlier this year. Rep. Ike Skelton (D-MO) was an original cosponsor of the House bill with Hall, and Senators Jeff Sessions (R-AL) and Ben Nelson (D-NE) sponsored the bill in the Senate.

“Passage of this legislation by both the House and Senate sends a strong message of support to the Boy Scouts of America and recognizes their 100 years of distinguished service on behalf of our nation’s young men,” Hall said. “I can think of no other organization that has done more to develop strong character and core American values than the Boy Scouts of America.”

Boy Scouts of America Chief Financial Officer James Terry issued a press release that stated, “This date, our 100th Anniversary, is a very special milestone for the millions of youth and families who have been part of this unique American movement since 1910.” Terry expressed appreciation to Rep. Hall and the other sponsors who were instrumental in passage of the resolution.

“I want to thank the 73 cosponsors in the House as well as the Senate sponsors who supported this measure and helped ensure its consideration and passage,” Hall said.

Hall also commended a constituent from the Fourth District – John Jarvis of Texarkana, TX, for suggesting Congressional recognition of this milestone in Boy Scouts’ history. “John is a great Scout leader with the Caddo Area Council and has dedicated many years of service to the Boy Scouts. I appreciate his work in helping bring this to fruition.”
