Washington, D.C. – Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) issued the following release today regarding the President’s $3.8 trillion budget. “The budget President Obama unveiled continues record budget deficits for as far as the eye can see. Instead of focusing on job creation and deficit reduction in 2009, the President and Congressional Democrats were obsessed with passing a national energy tax and government takeover of health care. While I am glad the President has begun to speak of getting back to fiscal responsibility, his much-talked about, yet modest, ‘spending freeze’ does not go into effect until next year. More than anything else, the President’s failure to immediately and seriously tackle systemic problems in our nation’s fiscal outlook promises to further constrain economic growth. Instead of declaring war on every productive sector of our ever-dwindling private economy, the President should look at ways to lessen the tax burden on families and small businesses and encourage job creation. It is the private sector, not the government, which will lead the country out of its current predicament. As I have said before, if the President wants to seriously look at cutting wasteful government spending, he will find an ally in the fight to regain control of the federal budget.” ### |
