Marchant Commends New Cedar Hill Government Center
October 6, 2008

Cedar Hill -- Congressman Kenny Marchant last week attended the grand opening of the Cedar Hill Government Center in downtown Cedar Hill.  The City of Cedar Hill and Cedar Hill Independent School District (CHISD) hosted the grand opening of the new facility that houses city administration and departmental offices, administrative offices of CHISD, and the Cedar Hill Police Department.

The grand opening was attended by several dignitaries including State Senator Royce West, State Representative Helen Giddings, Cedar Hill Mayor Rob Franke, Cedar Hill City Manager Alan Sims, and CHISD President Dan Hernandez.

For the historic occasion, Marchant presented Mayor Franke and CHISD President Hernandez a congressional record and a U.S. flag flown over the Capitol.

“A community known for its beautiful natural landscape and rolling hills, Cedar Hill is now home to one of the most innovative and efficient government centers not only in the state, but in the country,” said Marchant.  “Cedar Hill has always been a community committed to providing the best for its citizens, and the new Government Center is yet another example of that commitment.”

The Cedar Hill Government Center is the only known municipal facility in Texas that joins city and school administration offices, along with police headquarters, under one roof.  The 116,000 sq. ft. facility was built at a cost of $27.5 million funded by bonds approved by citizens.  By co-locating, the City and School District saved taxpayers roughly $4 million.  Future transportation and efficiency costs should add to overall savings.

The design and construction of the building incorporated local materials, regional symbols and the surrounding landscape to create a unique environment representing the natural beauty of Cedar Hill.

“This joint effort is a testament to our commitment to making Cedar Hill a premier City and a great place to live, work and play,” said Mayor Franke.
