Washington, DC -- Today, Congressman Kenny Marchant (R-TX) assured his constituents and all Texans that illegal immigrants will not be eligible to receive tax rebates through the recently passed economic stimulus bill.

"I can guarantee that had illegal immigrants been allowed to receive rebate checks, I would not have voted for the stimulus bill that passed the U.S. House of Representatives January 29, 2008," Marchant said.

"There is no language in the stimulus bill enabling illegal immigrants to receive checks. This bill has similar provisions to the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts preventing illegal immigrants from receiving benefits."

Any illegal immigrant who attempts to file taxes based on stolen or fraudulent information in order to receive a check under the House bill is committing tax fraud.
