Amount requested: $1,100,000
Funding will support an interdisciplinary program for undergraduate and faculty research on solar energy. The central component will be the installation of a solar furnace to facilitate research. The specific research focus will be the potential of producing fuels from concentrated sunlight exploring the effect of endothermic chemical reactions that lead to reactive materials that can be used as a fuel. This project is consistent with the research goals of the Department of Energy’s Solar Energy Technologies Program.
