Amount Requested: $1,575,000 The funding will be used by the City of East Chicago for the installation of emergency and standby power system improvements at the city’s wastewater treatment plant. The current systems at the plant are inadequate, which could potentially create hazards or hamper rescue or fire fighting operations. Power failures can also result in releasing untreated sewage in the local ecosystem. Investment in wastewater infrastructure provides significant environmental, public health, and economic benefits to the local communities and the nation.
