Newark is undertaking efforts to construct a centrally located Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and Homeland Security building to protect citizens and the region.  Fund will be used to purchase interoperability equipment for the Newark Emergency Operations Center.The Newark EOC will enhance emergency management capabilities within the jurisdiction by addressing the specific needs cited in the New Jersey State Preparedness Report (SPR) for a central platform on the local level, which is also interoperable with regional, state and other local EOCs. The Newark EOC will provide for continuation of government and a reliable mechanism of notification and appropriate response for government officials, first responders and public safety personnel, which will facilitate a more efficient response to any hazardous situation or incident.  It will also provide a fully integrated EOC environment to address all hazards, including acts of terrorism, whereby the coordination of emergency and public safety assets are maximized.
