Washington, DC - Representative Gene Green will attend the signing of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization bill at the White House today. The legislation includes a provision introduced by Rep. Green that gives states the option of covering legal immigrant children and pregnant women who have been here less than five years under SCHIP and Medicaid. Similar legislation was vetoed twice by President Bush in the 110
th Congress.
“The renewal of SCHIP will give America’s children a healthy foundation for their growth and development,” said Green. “With rising unemployment this legislation has become more crucial than before, and eighty percent of all Americans support this bill. Not only is this the right thing to do for our children, but it is also the more fiscally responsible solution.”
