Washington, D.C. --- Rep. Rush Holt (NJ-12) today released the following statement regarding the Rutgers University women’s basketball team response to derogatory comments made by radio personality Don Imus:
“I commend the student-athletes of the Rutgers University women’s basketball team for confronting head-on the racist and sexist remarks by Don Imus. Throughout the basketball season, these young women excelled in academics and athletics. Today they have shown the nation once again what classy, intelligent, and remarkable student-athletes they are.
“Mr. Imus’ remarks were offensive, ignorant, and inexcusable. He has much work to do if he is to gain the forgiveness of those he has offended.
