ON INTELLIGENCE REPORT ON PREWAR IRAQ INTELLIGENCE

(Washington, DC) – Rep. Rush Holt (NJ-12), Chair of the Select Intelligence Oversight Panel, today issued the following statement on the release, by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, of the Phase II report. The report details numerous prewar claims by the Bush Administration that were not supported by intelligence.
“The latest report from the Senate investigation into the manipulation of intelligence on Iraq only underscores why Congress should conduct strong and viable oversight into intelligence before, not after, going to war. This report further shows why Congress needs its own dedicated intelligence analysis office—with full access to all classified information used in intelligence assessments—to provide members with spin-free facts on key intelligence issues.”
