HOLT STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF
AL QAEDA IN IRAQ LEADER ABU MUSAB AL ZARQAWI

Washington, D.C. -- Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ) today issued the following statement on the successful Multinational Coalition Forces (MNF) airstrike that resulted in the death of Al Qaeda In Iraq’s leader, Abu Musab al Zarqawi:

“Good intelligence supplied by the Iraqi people helped make this successful strike possible. It’s further evidence that 2006 should be a year of transition for American forces in Iraq, where our role shifts from a combat role to an advisory role. We can and should accelerate the redeployment of our military forces so that the Iraqi government can take the fight directly to the insurgents and terrorists remaining in Iraq. The home-grown, Sunni-dominated nationalist insurgency remains our biggest problem in Iraq. Defeating it will require a coordinated effort on the political, economic, and military fronts.”
