Washington, D.C. -- Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ) today issued the following statement on the statement in today’s New York Times by national religious leaders calling on the U.S. government to eliminate torture and cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment of persons in its custody:
“It is a welcome and encouraging sign when religious leaders from diverse religious perspectives can speak with a single, powerful voice on such an important moral issue. I commend the leaders of the National Religious Campaign Against Torture for speaking truth to power on torture and the inhumane treatment of detainees, and for their efforts to help reset America’s moral compass.”
