(Lawrenceville, N.J.) – Rep. Rush Holt today met with 150 troops from the 50th Brigade Combat Team in New Jersey before their deployment in June for final training in Texas and their final destination of several locations throughout Iraq. Rep. Holt heard the concerns of the troops and offered his assistance to them in any way before, during, and after their deployment. Col. Steve Ferrari, Commander of the New Jersey 50th Brigade, also participated in the meeting.
“I thank you for your past service and I thank you for what you’re about to do,” Holt said. “Your professionalism in past service is an example of how to do your job in a way that brings credit to your unit, the state, and our country. Please know that I’m working with others in Congress to make sure you have the support structure in place to meet your needs when you return.”
Holt told the troops he hopes that when they return there will be a new 21st Century GI Bill that would cover a full four-year college education. He is also working to provide increased funding for a range of medical care, including treatment for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
