HOLT HOSTS “D.C. DAY” FOR NEW JERSEY FIRST RESPONDERS

(Washington, DC) – Rep. Rush Holt (NJ-12) today hosted 50 first responders from across Central New Jersey for a day-long discussion with Congressional and executive branch leaders about issues affecting state police, fire, and EMS officers.

“I am excited to welcome to Washington the men and women who courageously keep our citizens safe every day,” Holt said. “From law enforcement training to equipment upgrades, there are many ways in which the federal government can assist those on our front lines, and this is an opportunity to hear about their  needs and concerns.”

Throughout the year, Holt hosts “D.C. Days” to bring representatives of various New Jersey groups to Washington for discussions with policy makers and opinion leaders. Today’s speakers included representatives from the Department of Justice, FBI, Department of Homeland Security, Capitol Police, and Representatives Kendrick Meek (FL-17), Bill Pascrell (NJ-8), David Price (NC-4), Jim Ramstad (MN-3), and David Reichert (WA-8).  New Jersey Attorney General Anne Milgram also participated. Topics discussed included the Federal, state, and local law enforcement cooperation, the Byrne and COPS grant programs, and homeland security and preparedness issues.

Attending the day-long event were law enforcement officials from across New Jersey representing various ranks and responsibilities, including chiefs of police, fire captains, detectives, police surgeons, and emergency management coordinators. Local agencies represented included the Amwell Valley Fire Company, Asbury Park Fire Department, East Brunswick Township Emergency Management Office, Freehold Township Police Department, Helmetta Fire Department, Hunterdon County Sheriff's Office, Jamesburg Fire Department, Kingston Volunteer Fire Company #1, Middletown Township Fire Department, Nottingham Ambulance Squad, Oceanport Fire Department, Peapack and Gladstone Police Department, Pennington Road Fire Company, Princeton Borough Bureau of Fire Safety and Housing Inspection, Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad, Prospect Heights Fire Company, Shrewsbury First Aid Squad, Shrewsbury Police Department, South River Police Department, Spotswood Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary, Tinton Falls Borough Fire Department, Tinton Falls Police Department, Emergency Response Design Group, Professional Firefighters Association of New Jersey, New Jersey Administrative Office of the Courts, and the New Jersey State Policemen's Benevolent Association.
