Washington, D.C. -- Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ) today hosted a “D.C. Day” for central New Jersey artists, administrators of artistic agencies and organizations, and supporters of the arts. The program for the day is designed to provide an opportunity for them to hear the latest about policy developments affecting the arts.
“Our culture is immeasurably enhanced when we make sustained investments in the arts,” said Holt. “ New Jersey ’s many fine museums, galleries, arts schools, theaters, and other performing arts centers showcase our artistic and musical talent, providing countless opportunities for us to enrich our lives through the arts. By keeping them informed about policies and legislation affecting artists, performers, and their work, I hope to strengthen what they bring to New Jersey .”

Participants in today’s event heard presentations from Representatives Louise M. Slaughter (D-NY) and Christopher Shays (R-CT), Co-Chairs, Congressional Arts Caucus; Rep. David Price (D-NC), Co-Chair, Congressional Humanities Caucus; Diane Austin, Program Manager, Arts in Education Program, U.S. Dept. of Education; Narric Rome, Director of Federal Affairs, Americans for the Arts; Dr. Peggy O’Brien, Senior Vice President for Educational Programming and Services Corporation for Public Broadcasting; and Dana Gioia, Chairman, National Endowment for the Arts.
