HOLT PRESENTS HOLMDEL WITH
FEDERAL TRANSPORTATION FUNDS

(Holmdel, N.J.) --- U.S. Representative Rush Holt (NJ-12) today presented Holmdel Township with $800,000 in federal funds for the Laurel Avenue Bridge Reconstruction Project.  Replacing NJ Transit’s 2-track railroad bridge over Laurel Avenue will ease traffic congestion, facilitate commercial access, and enhance safety for pedestrians and vehicles.

Rep. Holt secured the $800,000 appropriation for Holmdel Township during consideration of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU).

“I am pleased to present this check to Holmdel Township for the Laurel Avenue Bridge Replacement Project,” said Rep. Holt.  “This is one important way that New Jersey residents can see a return on their tax dollars.  Replacing the Laurel Avenue bridge is important for Holmdel’s future as it tries to minimize traffic congestion, spur economic development, and enhance safety.”

Mayor Larry Fink accepted the federal funds on behalf of Holmdel Township. "This is a much needed traffic and public safety project that will benefit not only Holmdel but also the region,” Fink said.  “We very much appreciate Congressman Holt’s initiative in obtaining the funding that will help get this important project moving."

SAFETEA-LU authorizes the Federal surface transportation programs for highways, highway safety, and transit for the 5-year period 2005-2009.  Holmdel Township was one of several towns in the 12th District for which Rep. Holt successfully secured funds for important projects on roads or mass transit facilities.
