Washington, D.C. -- Today, Rep. Rush Holt (NJ-12) issued the following statement on President Bush’s nomination of Ben Bernanke to be the next chairman of the Federal Reserve Board:
“I am pleased that the President has completed the process of selecting a replacement for retiring Fed chairman Alan Greenspan, and I congratulate Mr. Bernanke on his appointment. It is good to see the President turn to New Jersey , once again, for an appointment of critical importance.
“Maintaining a sound monetary policy to ensure sustainable economic growth will be a major challenge given our current budget deficit and the impact of multiple hurricanes on the nation’s economy. Strong and thoughtful leadership is very much in need, and I look forward to hearing Mr. Bernanke’s thoughts on addressing these and other challenges.”
